Osco Space To Get New Grocery Store
The long-empty building near the corner of Broadway and Providence Road is about to come back to life as the home of Lucky’s Farmers Market, a natural and organic foods store chain based in Boulder, Colo. According to company president Bo Sharon, the 30,000-square-foot store will employ more than 100 people and will provide a complete shopping experience that includes a large produce section plus fresh meat, a deli and a full vitamin and supplements section. The building at 111 S. Providence Road has stood empty since Osco Drug closed in 2004.
Lucky’s Farmers Market is expanding throughout the Midwest and selected Columbia as one of its locations because, according to Sharon, “It’s a cool town. To be honest with you, that’s it, flat out. It feels like a like-minded city with good people, common values and community seems important. When we looked at the real estate, we asked, ‘Where do we want to spend time with our families?’ More importantly, in our perspective, Columbia was underserved for what we do.”
Sharon says the company hopes for a fall opening of the new Lucky’s Farmers Market in Columbia.
