Punch It Up!

A delicious punch is a must for showers and receptions, and we’ve collected four fabulous punch bowl recipes. You won’t find these online. These are trusted favorites passed from mother to daughter, aunt to niece, friend to friend and now, from Inside Columbia to you.

Love Potion

A sweet, slushy fruit punch

1 quart pineapple juice
½ cup lemon juice
3 cups water
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 small box cherry gelatin mix
½ teaspoon almond extract
2 (2-liter) bottles ginger ale

Mix first four ingredients. Heat until translucent.

In separate bowl, dissolve gelatin mix in 2 cups water. Add almond extract.

Combine two mixtures, mix well and pour into coffee cans to freeze. To serve, let frozen mixture thaw for about an hour. Put ½ the thawed punch into a punch bowl and add 1 bottle of ginger ale. Make second bowl the same way.

Going Simple

A smooth, sweet fruit punch with just the right amount of zip!

1 (64-ounce) bottle fruit punch
6 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
1 bottle (2-liter) ginger ale or lemon-lime soda (such as 7-Up)
½ gallon sherbet, any flavor

Mix first three ingredients (if punch bowl isn’t large enough, mix “extra” in a separate container to add later). Add sherbet as one frozen block about an hour before serving if juices have been chilled; a half hour if juices are at room temperature.

Coffee Delight

A creamy, dreamy cold café mocha

¼ cup instant coffee
¼ cup chocolate drink mix (such as Nesquik)
6 cups hot water
½ gallon vanilla ice cream
½ gallon chocolate ice cream

Mix first three ingredients and refrigerate overnight (or at least until cold). About 30 minutes before serving, pour chilled mixture into a large punch bowl; add ice cream in scoops. Let scoops begin to melt (about 10 minutes), and then stir gently.

Bridal Fruit Punch

A refreshing, slushy fruit punch

4 cups prepared pink lemonade from mix
1 (280 ml) can frozen strawberry juice concentrate
3 cups ginger ale
2 cups soda water

Mix first two ingredients in a punch bowl. Then pour ginger ale and soda water down sides of punch bowl. Makes 20 servings.

Calculate two servings of nonalcoholic punch per guest the first hour and one serving per guest for each additional hour.
