In this column we are looking back at historical places in Boone County. Ernie’s Cafe was founded in 1934 by the owner Ernie Lewis, for whom the cafe is named. It was reported to be a popular place for couples to go to dinner and there was even a “Date Steak” option on the menu.
We want to hear from you! What is the best menu item you’ve ever had at Ernie’s? Is there a story or paragraph you could share with us about your experience at this popular cafe? Submit up to a 125-word essay on this photo and it might be included in next month’s issue!
Also, here’s a bragging rights contest that you won’t want to miss: go to the Boone County Historical Society Facebook page at facebook.com/boonehistory to submit your guess as to what year this photo was taken! The first person to respond with the correct answer will be mentioned in next month’s Prime magazine.
The Boone County Historical Society does accept donations of historical photos. Let them know you are a Prime reader and your photo might be used in an upcoming issue, giving you credit for the photo. Give them a call or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
