Dear Fancy Bar Chef,
I recently read in this magazine about the classic margarita; I love that drink. My husband and I would concur that it is a wonderful summertime libation. We have been experimenting with other tequila cocktails but haven’t really found the one that makes us want to try it again.
So, Fancy Bar Chef, what do you suggest?
Carolina in Columbia
It makes me so happy when people actually like tequila. It is a wonderful spirit that so very often gets a bad reputation. It is refreshing to hear some good people expanding their tequila palate.
I recently concocted a cocktail that utilizes tequila and is quickly becoming a favorite. I call it “The Devil In A Blue Dress.” It consists of tequila, triple sec, pineapple juice and my blueberry simple syrup. I garnish it with an orange slice to highlight the tropical flavors and to make it look pretty.
Carolina, try this cocktail the next time you have friends over and see what they think.
Feel free to change it up to your tastes! Remember, your only limitation is your own imagination.
The Devil In A Blue Dress
1½ ounces tequila (I use gold)
½ ounce triple sec
Mix tequila and triple sec in a glass. Top with pineapple juice (save a little room). Top with blueberry simple syrup. Stir-garnish with an orange slice or pineapple slice.
Blueberry Simple Syrup
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
2 cups frozen blueberries
Mix ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil. Set aside to cool to room temperature. Strain. Store in a bottle and keep refrigerated.
