Devara Brock served her country for many years in the Army, repairing top secret communication equipment. She says the highlight of her military career was being deployed to Saudi Arabia. Brock enjoys learning about other cultures and their traditions, and says that the best place she had the opportunity to visit during her service was Yongsan, Korea. Currently, she works as a Student Service Coordinator at the University of Missouri where she serves scholars and walks alongside each of them throughout their college journey and beyond.
She would advise those thinking of joining the military to be open to transforming their lives into becoming more aware of their identity, and to take full advantage of the opportunities the military offers. The biggest lesson she learned while in the service was that family isn’t limited to blood relatives.
Brock continues to serve her community and enjoys working behind the scenes with Welcome Home Executive Director, Tim Rich. She also volunteers as a Big Sister with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, teaches anger management to 17- to 21-year-old at-risk youth and teaches mindfulness to kindergarten through fifth graders. She also teaches identity lessons to adults and volunteers on a regular basis at the Food Bank and for Clean Up Columbia.
An avid skydiver, Brock also enjoys watching movies and traveling.
