Empire Roller Rink’s Artistic Skate Team will hold a fundraiser on Sunday, July 16, to help them travel to the National Artistic Roller Skating Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska, which will be held during the last week of July and the first week of August.
Twelve skaters, age 7 to 51, from the Columbia team qualified to compete at Nationals this year. From noon to 1:30, they will run carnival-style games and raffles, and sell food and other items. A public skating session follows from 1:30 to 3:30. From 4:00 to 6:00, the team will put on a show for the public, performing their freestyle and solo dance routines, pairs dance, and figures.
The public is invited to come have fun and support the team. Admission is $10 for all events from noon to 6:00, or $5 for the 4:00 skate show only. For $25, a family of up to five can enjoy the entire day with the team. BBQ, cotton candy, sno cones, and baked goods will be available, as well as a homemade pie auction, a face-painting booth, a book sale, and much more. All proceeds go to the Artistic Skate Team. The skaters are eager to share their performances with you before they leave for Nationals!
