Community Gathering For Peace
Mid-Missouri Peaceworks is holding a peace gathering and commemoration in conjunction with the 73rd anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Community members will gather this Sat., August 4 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Gordon Shelter of Columbia’s Stephens Lake Park. This is the 32nd consecutive year Peaceworks members and supporters will gather to honor the memory of lives lost in the atomic bombings that took place in 1945.
The peace gathering is a family-oriented, free event. This year’s event will include speakers, music, lantern-making, a lantern float, and a potluck picnic. Participants will gather beginning at 6 p.m. The potluck starts at 6:30 p.m. Music begins at 7 p.m. The formal program, including the speakers, begins at 8 p.m. The lantern float will be held at 9 p.m.
