Lady Parts: a Song Cycle

The majority of musical theatre songs written for women have men as the topic. “Lady Parts,” a new song cycle, was written to break that mold. Sponsored by the MU Women’s & Gender Studies Department, this world premiere performance includes 16 original new songs, ranging from hilarious to bittersweet, that give female performers the chance to sing about being human.

Music is by Meg Phillips Crespy, winner of the 2017 Jackie White National Children’s Playwriting Contest (for music composition) and of the Missouri Film Commission’s 2018 Missouri Stories Fellowship. Lyrics are by Meg Phillips Crespy with additional lyrics by Mark Baumgartner, David Crespy, Natasha Ria El-Scari, DeeDee Farris and Meredith Shaw. The cast features local performers Christine Bay, Samantha Boisclair, Leia Brooks, Diana Curtwright, Rochara Knight, Hephzibah Niamh, Meg Phillips Crespy, and Anna Ralls.

The evening will provide laughs, a few tears, and will leave audiences feeling upbeat. Recommended for ages 13 and up (contains mature language). Admission is $10 for general public at or at the door, and free for MU faculty, staff, and students with ID.
