The Penguin Piano Bar and Restaurant Shuts its Doors

Less than a year after reopening, The Penguin Piano Bar took to Facebook to announce their closure. The bar on Broadway was a downtown staple before it initially shut down amid the pandemic.

The bar re-opened in March 2024 with an emphasis on live music and a full dining menu. The 21 and up dueling piano show drew in crowds of locals and students alike. Unfortunately, owner Jesse Garcia cited financial hurdles for the closure last week.

“Thank you for more than 20 years of Sweet Caroline singalongs,” Garcia said on Facebook. “Maybe someday we’ll try again.”
