Nourish Café & Market Avoids Closure, New Ownership Underway

In September, Nourish Café & Market co-founder and owner Kalle Lemone announced on social media that the restaurant would close by year’s out if she was unable to find a buyer.

“This business has evolved into something I am so proud of,” Lemone explained in September on Facebook. “I have poured my heart and soul into it over the last decade. After a lot of reflection and deep, careful consideration, my role as the owner of Nourish now feels complete.” The plan was, if a buyer with the same passion for healthy, organic food as Lemone expressed interest, she would sell. If not, Nourish would close quietly.

Then, Dec. 2, the cafe announced that the new ownership would be under none other than Stephens College.

Come spring, Nourish Café will “become a unique hands-on learning space” for students, continuing to fuel Columbia with organic, locally sourced, nutrient dense food. The current manager, Josh Old, along with the rest of the team will remain on staff at Nourish.

“We’re excited for this next chapter — one that blends Nourish’s mission with Stephens’ commitment to experiential learning and women-powered leadership,” Nourish and Stephens posted.
