Earlier this month, Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity announced that they received a $50,000 grant from the Veterans United Foundation, funded by the employees of Veterans United Home Loans.
This grant will support Habitat’s Homes Matching Funds Kick-Off initiative and the continued expansion of affordable homeownership opportunities in Boone County. It will also be used to help purchase building materials for the first five homes in Phase 2 of Habitat’s Boone Prairie subdivision, a 54-acre development that will ultimately provide 143 affordable homes for local families. Currently, 22 families are living in completed homes, with additional homes in various stages of construction.
“This investment from the Veterans United Foundation is an incredible example of what is possible when a local company and its employees choose to invest in the future of their community,” Lacey Pratt, the fundraising and community outreach manager for Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity, said in a press release. “This grant will help us move forward with the Boone Prairie Subdivision, but its impact goes far beyond construction of homes in the subdivision. It helps local families build stability, independence and a foundation for their future.”
Businesses do not have to wait for a large capital campaign or a major sponsorship opportunity to make an impact. Support can take many forms, from a financial grant or corporate sponsorship to donating building materials, providing employee volunteer teams or helping connect Habitat with additional community resources.
