Boone County Builds First Childcare Center for Public Safety Workers

By Jane Steinbrecher

With a goal in mind to prioritize families, construction is underway on a childcare center on the Boone County Public Safety Campus.

The center is expected to offer care seven days a week and contains indoor and outdoor play areas, with additional space for an eventual expansion. The construction is supported by a funding agreement reached in 2024.

“Access to and the availability of affordable childcare is at crisis level across the nation,” the press release stated. “This is exacerbated for first responders due to atypical, unpredictable schedules and the typically limited hours of most childcare centers. Through the construction of the Public Safety Childcare Center, Boone County hopes to address the challenge of finding childcare for its first responders.”
