The Columbia Independent School recently got approval from the CIS Board of Trustees to redesign the campus. The plan is to add a 27,000-square-foot upper school building for grades nine through 12, while also renovating its existing building.

Kari Stockwell, director of admissions and marketing, says the plan is to connect the new building to the current building and offer a separate space for students in ninth through 12th grade. This separation will allow CIS to create spaces in the current building for a third section of each lower school grade as well as an early childhood center.

CIS serves 400 students in junior kindergarten through 12th grade, offering small class sizes that are focused on individualized learning.

To celebrate this milestone, CIS is planning a groundbreaking ceremony for the project at 4:45 p.m. Nov. 17. The upper school building is set to open in fall 2024. For more information, visit cislions.org.
