Start Off 2022 On The Right Foot!

By Inside Columbia

… or the left. It really doesn’t matter. Gather your friends and family and head out on a First Day Hike at a Missouri state park. Mid-Missourians are fortunate to be blessed with many scenic spots for hiking (and helping us work off those holiday pounds!) Not to mention, they allow us to spend time with those we care about. For a list of Missouri state parks, click here.

The hikes are being  promoted by America’s State Parks. In 2020, 85,000 people rang in the New Year with a hike, collectively hiking over 176,366 miles throughout the country on the guided hikes. Numerous others hiked state park trails throughout the day. Here are some fun stats from the organization from last year’s First Day hikes:

  • Miles hiked per person: two
  • Calories burned: equal to 41,348 fast-food burgers
  • Distance traveled: seven trips around the equator
  • Total steps Taken: 415,693,531
