Yesterday on Instagram, the owners of Main Squeeze (along with Pizza Tree and Goldie’s Bagels) announced the vegetarian eatery will close Sunday, Dec. 21.
“It’s been an honor to bring back Main Squeeze for so many of you to enjoy and we’ve learned a lot over the past year,” the owners stated. “Our vision one year ago was to reopen the cafe with the original recipes and build off of that and add our own flair. While we are proud of what we were able to accomplish, the sales have not been nearly close enough to cover the operational costs and complexities.”
The post hinted that there is a plan to move forward that honors the owners’ original commitment to bringing healthy, vegetarian options to Columbia. They’ve described it as “more streamlined” with a new name but keeping elements of the original restaurant intact, still owned and operated by owners Amanda Rainey and John Gilbreth.
Employees of Main Squeeze will help with the transition and work shifts at Pizza Tree and Goldie’s in the meantime. Gift cards and Main Squeeze rewards will be honored at Pizza Tree, Goldie’s and the new concept taking Main Squeeze’s place once it opens.
