Women to Watch 2025: Brianna Durbin, Layla Brown, Kati Conyers

By Inside Columbia

Brianna Durbin, the oculoplastic coordinator/front desk supervisor, Layla Brown, the LASIK coordinator and Kati Conyers, the IOL coordinator at Restoration Eyecare, didn’t realize a career in the medical field was in their future. “Health care is something I never saw myself doing,” Durbin says. “But once I started working in the field, I continuously wanted to learn more and explore the options.” Brown had a similar experience, saying, “Ophthalmology wasn’t a field I had even considered as a career path; however, since becoming a LASIK coordinator, I’ve found the work incredibly rewarding.” Conyers was on a whole other career path before transitioning to health care. “I had worked in the education field for 15 years and wanted to make a career change into the medical field,” she says.

Working at Restoration Eyecare is about more than just providing a service; it’s about empowering patient trust, communicating with clients and making sure clients have positive life-changing outcomes. “One of my strengths has been bridging the gap between the surgical team and patients — explaining complex procedures in a way that makes people feel informed and empowered. My communication style often helps patients move from fear to excitement,” Brown says.

Helping clients is just the beginning. The true impact lies in inspiring future generations to continue this powerful, pivotal mission. “Being someone who can inspire and encourage other women, make a difference in the community in which we live, and strive for real change and improvements,” Durbin says. “That’s a woman I would want to watch.” For Conyers, being a “Woman to Watch” means being a “woman who displays leadership skills and is exceptional in the workplace.” Brown agrees, saying this title “reflects leadership, dedication and the ability to inspire others through their work, whether that’s by breaking barriers in their field, mentoring others or making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around them.”

For women looking to enter the health care field, Durbin says to take the leap. “The health care industry isn’t going anywhere. We will always need health care,” she says. “But what we will always need more of is strong women looking to make a difference for people in their community. Go for it!” Brown says women are truly the backbone of the health care industry. “I believe we’ll continue to see more women stepping into leadership within refractive surgery clinics, not just as coordinators, but as decision-makers who help shape the patient experience, improve clinic operations and advocate for innovation in eye care,” she says. The team at Restoration Eyecare is dedicated to empowering women, enhancing the lives of their clients and creating a lasting impact on the community.
