Royalty? Yes, But Not The Kind You Think

By Inside Columbia

Don’t be fooled by the title of the film showing in Leadership Auditorium at 8 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 19. “King Richard” isn’t about the English monarch also known as Richard the Lionheart.

The film is actually a look at how tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams became the tennis legends they are after being coached by their father, Richard Williams.

The two sisters are Grand Slammin’ success stories — Venus is a seven-time Grand Slam title winner, while Serena is a twenty-three-time Grand Slam title winner. And let’s not forget their Olympic medals.

Many predicted Venus would be the first Williams sister to win a Grand Slam singles title, but it was Serena, winning the 1999 U.S. Open. At that tournament the sisters won the doubles event. Over the course of their careers, the two teamed up for 14 Grand Slam doubles titles.
