Another measure on the ballot today with the potential to impact Missouri’s economic wellness is Amendment 2, a proposition for the Missouri Constitution to permit licensed sports gambling.

If passed, individuals over the age of 21 can wager on athletics in Missouri with a 10% tax on gambling revenue to be appropriated towards Missouri schools. Some argue that this added income towards our public schools can greatly benefit our youth and that regulation of gambling can curb addiction. Those in opposition to the amendment argue that regulation of the habit will only worsen addictive tendencies and that the tax margins benefiting schools are too thin to risk the well-being of Missourians.
