Mizzou senior Kiley Grimes has opened her first business – Soundcheck Practice Studios at 110 Orr Street in the North Village Arts District. This is a practice space for local musicians (soloists, bands, music teachers, etc.) to perform and record their music.
While struggling to find a place to practice piano, Grimes came up with this idea and pitched it during her time with the Entrepreneurship Alliance at MU. Since then, the business has grown to fruition in a physical space. The Columbia Chamber of Commerce joined Grimes and her family for an official ribbon cutting in October.
The space can be booked for 30 minutes (about $12) up to a full day, and musicians can pay per session or purchase hours in bulk. Studios are fully equipped with a selection of guitars, drums, pianos, keyboards, amps, speakers, mixers and other accessories.
Grimes says she plans to open a second location within the next year.
