A new workshop is coming to town with the City of Columbia Volunteer Programs. From 5:30-6:30 p.m. next Wednesday, Sept. 4, residents can head to the Capen Park Compost Demonstration Site for a vermicomposting course.
Vermicomposting is a method of composting that uses earthworms to break down organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. The worms consume the waste and produce castings that enrich the soil, enhancing plant growth and reducing waste.
The workshop will cover how to start composting with worms, the biology and life cycle of composting worms and worm bin construction.
This event is free to the public. To register, residents can fill out this form.
Can’t attend? The workshop will also be available Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. with a focus on Bokashi anaerobic composting.
