Main Squeeze in downtown Columbia has made some big changes to its business. According to an announcement on Facebook, owner Leigh Lockhart says after 25 years of running a busy food-based business, Main Squeeze no longer offers food. “While my support for cruelty-free eating has never been stronger, my passion for running a busy food-based business has dwindled after 25 years,” the post says.
Instead, Lockhart says Main Squeeze will continue to be Columbia’s made-to-order fresh juice and smoothie bar, offering smoothies with “100% fruit, no mixes, no powders, no ‘fruit bases,’ just food, blended into sweet, real smoothies,” the post says. She also says she plans to release a cookbook with all the recipes for those who want to try to make their favorite Main Squeeze dishes at home.
Lockhart has also added a sustainability market with products that are alternatives to household items that come in plastic. “We now stock over 40 personal care and cleaning products that you can purchase by the ounce, dispensed into your container or one of ours, eliminating the need for single-use plastics,” the post says.
Lockhart says the market does offer “a selection of vegan snacks and candy, and we still offer vegan bakery items like Elizabeth Warren Balls, Lemon Crinkles, and our new favorite, Fluffernutters,” the post says.
