Drop the winter doldrums at an event called DIY Your Bloom on Friday, Feb. 18! There will be plenty of floral fun and free food (pizza from Italian Village). The event, from 7-9 p.m. in N214 memorial (second floor of Memorial Union North), promises a night full of spring-themed crafts, DIY pressed flower decor and that free ‘za. Huzzah!

There are many types of paper folding. Perhaps the best-known is origami. Nearly everyone has seen the ubiquitous crane it can produce.

Origami is often also called paper folding. It’s an ancient art of folding objects out of paper to create both 2D and 3D objects. The word origami (from Japanese oru [“to fold”] and kami [“paper”]) has become the generic name for this art form, although some European historians feel it places too much emphasis on the Japanese origins of the art form that may well have developed on its own in many countries around the world.

Although paper folding is an integral part of origami, origami is not necessarily a part of paper folding. The two crafts are similar in that they both involve the folding of paper to achieve a specific result, but usually paper folding is done to serve a specific purpose and origami is an artistic expression.
