After reopening Katfish Katy’s back in April 2021, then having to close the doors early this year, the mother and son duo are back, this time with a café.

Vanessa Leitza and her son, Jake, opened The Old Neighborhood Café on July 27 after cleaning up the space near Cherry Hill, located at 2011 Corona Road. She says so far it’s been a very successful start. “Our Friday fish fry is so popular since people remember our fish from Katfish Katy’s, so it’s been growing every week.”

According to its website, the idea behind the café is to bring in family favorites that allow customers to “share a meal, a drink and reminisce about all the happiness that has come in our lifetimes surrounding food and family. ” Leitza says the crowd has been a great mix of people her and her son recognize along with new faces.

The hope is to expand their business in the next year or two but Leitza says there is no plan set in stone yet. “We are not sure what we are going to do; it could be a food truck, it could be a second location. We like this area and location a lot, so if we do figure out a way to grow, we will do that.”
