Lights, camera, action! Columbia Entertainment Company brings to the stage “The Carol Burnett Show: A Series of Sketches” first performance at 7:30-9 p.m. tonight.

Audience members can expect a laugh-out-loud time with exact scripts from some of the original show’s best comedy sketches. The shows are performed at the Columbia Entertainment Company at 1800 Nelwood.

Performances begin tonight and run each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Sunday, April 21. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. The other night’s performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range between $15-$20.

Kay Cook, the director of “The Carol Burnett Show: A Series of Sketches” says, “We have had so much fun putting this together. These are not carbon copies of the original skits (because no one can be Carol and her friends), but our interpretations of what made ‘The Carol Burnett Show’ such a success: over-the-top accents, ridiculous physical comedy, wonderful costumes and actors who dive head first into crazy comedic situations.”

Columbia Entertainment Company’s website provided background for those not well-acquainted with the comedian, stating, “Carol Burnett is known as one of the most brilliant comedians of all time, and her Carol Burnett Show ran for 11 years, garnering 25 prime-time Emmy awards and inclusion on Time magazine’s list of “100 Best TV Shows of All Times.” In 2019, Carol Burnett became the first recipient of the Carol Burnett Award, an honorary Golden Globe Award bestowed for outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen.”
