Heather Brown

Heather Brown began her military career being sworn into service by her mother, an active duty captain in the United States Army Reserve. Through her eight years, Brown worked as a Civil Affairs Specialist, taking on numerous responsibilities as she aimed to win the hearts and minds of foreign nationals. At one point, Brown was stationed in Tikrit, Iraq, as part of the Public Education Team that identified, evaluated and repaired schools damaged by war and neglect. Despite being one of the toughest times in Brown’s life and being away from comforts such as her mother’s homemade lasagna, Brown cites this experience as her most rewarding. She believes she would not be the woman she is had she not joined the Army.

Back in Columbia, Brown applies the lessons she learned in the military to her professional life. She currently works for Truman VA as a Strategic Partnership Officer, ensuring veterans get the care and treatment they’ve earned through their service.

When not working, Brown enjoys spending time with her husband and son and loves to frequent 1839 Taphouse.
